Responsibilities

After shipping Blood and its expansions, Monolith went through several phases of new game pitches and ideation.

Gruntz was one of several original concepts that I pitched, and went into production, helmed by Kevin Lambert. Kevin was immediately sold on the idea of Gruntz gameplay and their world, and he really made it his own.

As the “concept guy” on this project, my responsibilities were relatively short. The original concept was designed as a puzzle/strategy game for my wife, with adorably cute Gruntz, their Toolz and Toyz.

The LithTech 3D engine wasn’t complete, so the game had to be designed for Monolith’s 2D game engine, and it had to be done in 9 months. It was not the only casual game published by Monolith, but it remains the best.
